# Quickstart

$MEME is a token on the Stacks chain. In order to fully utilize its staking, vesting and other functions, you must first purchase it from a DEX. As of this date you can purchase $MEME only via [Velar](https://app.velar.com/swap).

### MEME Holders

Once you hold $MEME head over to [app.memecoinstx.com](https://app.memecoinstx.com) and login with your Leather or Xverse wallet in order to start [earning $SALT](/memestx/the-salt-token/introduction.md). No wallet transactions are necessary. 

Everything is automated and you don't need to 'lock' your $MEME in order to get $SALT rewards. The amount of $SALT you earn depends on a variety of factors, explained in more detail in the [Current Mechanism](/memestx/staking-meme-coin/base-staking-multipliers.md) section of this Whitepaper.
